What is CSA?

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. As a member of the Bushwick CSA, you are buying a share of vegetables from Garden of Eve Farm on Long Island. We get organically grown, FRESH and RIPE veggies delivered to Bushwick once a week, and Garden of Eve gets payment upfront so they can plan for the season, buy seed and equipment, and have peace of mind. CSAs are a mutually beneficial relationship between us, our farmer, and the planet!

Distribution Location:

The Shops at the Loom, 1087 Flushing Ave (at Knickerbocker).

Summer CSA is Wednesdays, 2-8pm, from early June to mid-November (time and specific weeks subject to change from year to year)

Winter CSA is one Saturday a month, 10am – 2pm, from December to May (specific dates announced at signup)

Volunteer Requirement:

A key component of Community Supported Agriculture is a volunteer commitment from each member. Distribution is volunteer run, and each member is required to work at least one 3-hour shift at some point in the season (the hour requirement may vary from season to season depending on how many people sign up). This is how we get such a great deal — we pay the farmer directly and do the work ourselves to distribute it so that we can cut out payment to the middle man!

For the 2014 season, volunteer shifts are on Wednesdays from 2-5pm and 5-8pm and you can have a friend or roommate work your shift for you. There are also a few non-distribution volunteer tasks we need help with if your work schedule makes a Wednesday shift difficult. Information on scheduling your volunteer shift is sent out to all members at the beginning of the season.

If you do not fulfill the volunteer requirement, we reserve the right to refuse membership in next year’s CSA. (We really don’t like to be mean… but we also really need everyone to help!)

Administrative Fee:

As of 2014, there is no Administrative Fee, as we are no longer hosted by the Bushwick Food Coop. The coop is open during pickup hours for non members to shop, so you can pick up additional grocery items.
More information on joining the Bushwick Food Co-op can be found here:
